Brake
Line Corrosion
Subaru is
issuing a recall for more than 660,000 vehicles after discovering a problem with
the brake lines. Extended exposure to salt water can corrode certain exposed
sections.
When the
cars are driven on streets where road salt is used, salt water can be kicked up
and can get through a gap in the fuel tank protector. Over the course of several
years, this can corrode areas of the brake line where there are gaps in the
resin cover. The issue was discovered during two rounds of corrosion testing by
Subaru.
The first
tests were conducted in 2011 and 2012, and eventually led to a recall of 215,000
vehicles in 2013. Additional testing in 2013 and 2014 showed that the problem
was more extensive than initially believed, and more vehicles, including some
that were part of the last recall, are being brought in for repairs. Subaru
found that the corrosion was significant enough to lead to a leak in the brake
line after seven or more years. However, no accidents have been linked to the
problem so far.
"Since
the centre and rear brake lines work independently of one another, braking will
still be possible if either (but not both) of the systems fail," says Subaru in
its report to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. "The driver
will be alerted to a fault in the brake system via illumination of the brake
system warning lamp because the fluid level will drop in the system. Failure of
either the centre or rear brake lines might cause the driver to misjudge the
amount of brake pedal travel required to achieve the desired stopping distance."

Accessories – ACC04 Air Compressor
Description:
The
Air Compressor is a free-standing unit that will provide a continuous supply of
clean, dry and oil-free compressed air, enabling the chamber to operate without
requiring connection to a local compressed air supply.
Installation:
Position
the compressor so that it is within reach of its power supply, and has adequate
space around it for a free flow of cooling air. Connect the output to the
compressed air input point of the chamber.
Operation:
The
Air Compressor is not designed to start against pressure. Therefore, the chamber
must be switched off and compressed air demanded before switching on the
compressor.

World Cup Brazil
2014
As the
tournament comes to an end this month, I am sure that all supporters will have
mixed emotions about the performances of their teams.
From an
Ascott perspective, I thought a few World Cup facts may be
interesting.
There
were 32 countries who qualified. Out of the 32 countries Ascott has
representation in 23 of these countries.
Out of
the 16 group qualifiers Ascott has representation in 13
countries.
In the
Quarter finals we have 6 representatives in the countries who got through and in
the semi-finals we have 3 counties represented.
With this
amazing coverage and vast amount of different industry sectors, what an
opportunity we have to help each other with our own sales and promotional
experiences.

Accelerated
corrosion test involving exposure under controlled conditions of humidity and
intermittent spraying of salt solution
Accelerated
corrosion tests to simulate atmospheric corrosion in such environments include
cyclic exposure to a wet phase, during which the test object is repeatedly
subjected first to a spray of salt solution then to a wet stand-by period for
several hours. This is followed by a phase of controlled cyclic humidity
conditions, where the test object is subjected to an environment which
alternates between high humidity and comparative
dryness.
In the
first (wet) phase of exposure, the test objects are sprayed for 15 min with a 1%
(mass fraction) aqueous solution of sodium chloride acidified to pH 4.2, to
simulate the rather acidic precipitation present in industrialized areas,
followed by a 1 h 45 min period of wet stand-by. This sequence is repeated three
times to give a total of 6 h exposure to wetness. The whole of this first phase
of the test cycle is repeated twice a week.
The major
part of the test cycle, however, consists of humidity cycling between the two
levels of 95 % RH and 50 % RH at a constant temperature of
35°C.
This test
is also referred to as a Cyclic Corrosion Test, often abbreviated to
CCT.
