Build Your Own Test Systems
For a variety of good reasons, some customers choose to provide their own mechanical test fixtures and load reaction frames and want us to provide the test controller and actuator assembly. TestResources supports these clients by supplying controllers with test software matched to an actuator with stroke sensors and load cells selected to meet application requirements.
Build Your own Test System with 5 Controller and Test Software Packages to choose from
Selecting the optimal test controller depends on budget, actuator compatibility, and the need to match test application requirements. While all controllers work with electromechanical actuators, the Q and R Series are most affordable in single channel applications. The 2360 and 2370 family is extremely capable and well suited to meeting the needs of fatigue testing and multichannel test applications. They are well suited to work with dynamic servohydraulic and electrodynamic actuators. Note that all TestResources controllers perform high speed high resolution data acquisition and PID based servo control. Controllers are configured to requirements with the help of an applications engineer.
The controller and software are arguably the most important components of a servo controlled test machine. All controllers feature a 10V servo output that makes them modular and interchangeable while being able to operate with compatible actuators and power packs.

Servo actuators to match your requirements
Selecting the optimal servo actuator depends on budget, controller compatibility, and the need to match test application requirements including force capacity, displacement or stroke, and test speed requirements.
Static rated actuators are used in slow moving tests with maximum speed of 1,000 mm/min (40 ipm). Dynamic actuators are capable of static tests and may operate as fast as 5 m/s (200 in/s). The term "cyclic" refers to a static rated actuator that cycles from one load or position level to another. Actuators that are fatigue rated can operate through zero loading and can generate loads to the capacity of the test machine. Fatigue rated assemblies are designed to be robust and capable of relatively high speed compared to static actuators. Actuator selection can be done with the help of an applications engineer. We offer solutions with higher performance and higher bandwidth that are not shown in this series.
Actuator Series | Attributes | Applications | Controller Compatibility | Power Pack |
---|---|---|---|---|
D Series | D Series electromechanical servo actuators serve tension and compression tests with monotonic or slow speed low force cyclic test requirements. Each actuator assembly includes dual linear bearings, servomotor and screw, position encoder, load cell and limit interlocks. Mounting brackets and load reaction frames are optional. D Series actuators are available with load capacities from 1 kN (225 lbf) to 10 kN (2,250 lbf). Speeds are available up to 635 mm/min (25 in/min) available | Static Cyclic |

E Series | E Series electrodynamic actuators are faster and offer higher load capacities than electromechanical actuators. Each actuator assembly includes dual linear bearings, servomotor and screw, position encoder, and load cell. The fastest E Series actuators operate at speeds to 1 m/s (40 in/s). High force (slow speed) actuators can produce forces to 300 kN (67 kip) with strokes to 1.2 m (48 in). They serve static, dynamic and fatigue test requirements. These actuators are ideal for fatigue tests to 15 hz. | Static Cyclic Dynamic Fatigue |

B Series | Compared to D and E Series actuators, B Series Servo hydraulic actuators provide higher forces and or speeds and performance attributes that rely upon a hydraulic power supply sized to application requirements. Force capacities are up to 3 MN (670 kip) and speeds are possible beyond 100 Hz. Hydraulic Power Packs provide the energy to drive servo hydraulic actuators. Servohydraulic pumps produce oil pressures to 210 bar (3,000 psi) and flow rates needed to make the actuator perform as expected. The hydraulic power pack not only is configured to match performance but is also configured to match utility options; the choice depends on meeting force, displacement, speed, stroke and application requirements. Each actuator should be configured, at a minimum, to include a position and load sensor which enables the actuator to be operated in position or load control. | Static Cyclic Dynamic Fatigue |
